ART ‘N SOCIETY // ZOMERSALON 2019
In this group exhibition, 3 artists with their own focus, shine the light onto the hidden history, the uncovered connections and the overlooked dimensions, which have always been there.
It is a voyage of a shared history beginning with the Dutch Golden Age, which connects the dots from the past to the present.
It is a voyage through the globalism movement, in relation to our own consumption as the partaking in the butterfly effect.
It is a voyage through a dimension that is outside of anthropocentric perspective, which brings us closer to an understanding of the human/non-human dynamics.
The tension between visibility and invisibility, the subjective and the intersubjective gives body to the artworks in various forms and mixed media; drawings, paintings, collage, installation and performance.
The exhibition creates a reflexive outlook on our own positioning in this ever disenchanted yet re-enchanted world.

Connecting the dots – Roaming Artist in residency, Netherlands starting in Amsterdam 2019
After a year-long artist in residency in Friesland, which was part of the 2018 Leeuwarden European Cultural Capital project and international response to the theme: Iepen Mienskip. I’m pleased to continue my research-based project, In Search of Ubuntu, A Collective History, Dutch Golden Age, through a roaming artist in Residency starting in Amsterdam, that will retrace the steps of the VOC in order to connect the dots. After I have finished my Netherlands Roaming residency, this will be followed by an international roaming artist in residency where I will follow the VOC voyages through its triangular trade routes as well as connect the dots with all the chartered companies, the East and West India companies of that period. The Netherlands roaming artist in residency will include the following cities; Amsterdam, Middelburg, Dordrecht, Delft, The Hague, Leiden, Haarlem, Hoorn & Enkhuizen.
About the Dutch Golden Age
The Dutch Golden Age (17th century) was a period of great wealth for the Dutch Republic. With the East India Company (VOC), trade blossomed. Cities who were members of the VOC were among the richest in Holland, and the rich history of these cities is still visible in their many mansions, canals, churches, city walls and harbours. Art and science blossomed as well, which can be seen in the paintings of the famous Dutch Masters: Rembrandt, Hals, Vermeer and Steen.
